Not so gourmet A1 Cafe

You may laugh but I love HK cafe food - the wierd and the wonderful - portugese chicken baked rice, or the grilled chicken with onion sauce on spagetti, or the beef and slippery egg rice! YUM! A1 Cafe has all of these in the city and I got the opportunity to hang out there with a fellow devotee last week for dinner... I had the grilled chicken with onion sauce (which turned out to be some kind of tomato sauce, there was some grilled onion in sight though) on tomato paste stir-fried spagetti. My fellow patrons had their favourites - roast duck on cantonese noodles and wonton noodle soup. There is also an extensive list of "colourful" HK cafe style drinks, including bubble tea. My favourite there is taro bubble tea . Lots of young people go there for their dinners and lots of work people go there for their fix of MSG for lunch - hehehe.

A1 Cafe on Russell Street, near Lt Bourke Street corner / 03 9662 2168 / Open: Sun-Thur 11am-11pm, Fri-Sat 11am-1am; BYO Corkage $1 Each Glass.
